Guiding Players with Clarity, Purpose, and Experience
Who We Are
After decades of coaching hockey at elite levels, Ben Murphy and Cam Ellsworth took a purposeful step beyond the bench to create a new kind of partnership — one focused on helping families navigate the complex and competitive world of hockey with confidence and clarity.
With over 36 years of combined coaching experience across NCAA Division I (Men & Women), Division III, and USHL programs, Ben and Cam bring an unmatched perspective shaped by years of evaluating talent, developing players, and building successful programs from the ground up.
Their shift from collegiate coaching to family consulting is built on a core belief — the hockey journey should be about development, not just destinations. They understand that true success is achieved not only when goals are met, but when players and families genuinely grow and enjoy the process.
Ben Murphy brings 16 seasons of NCAA coaching experience across men and women. By combining elite playing credentials with proven developmental expertise. A former University of Maine standout who competed in two NCAA national championship games and scored the historic game-winning goal in the 2004 Hockey East Championship triple-overtime thriller, Murphy understands the journey from prospect to championship performer.
His coaching career spans Division I programs including Bentley University, St. Lawrence, RPI, and Providence College, where he has specialized in forward development, power-play systems, and recruiting excellence. At Bentley, Murphy helped recruit the program’s first NHL Draft pick and guided the Falcons to their first back-to-back winning seasons in program history. His three-year tenure at St. Lawrence culminated in an ECAC Hockey championship, where he played a pivotal role in recruiting and tactical development.
Murphy’s comprehensive experience across men’s and women’s hockey at multiple competitive levels provides unique insight into the diverse pathways available to today’s players. His approach emphasizes skill development, situational awareness, and building the mental framework necessary for advancement—lessons learned through his own championship experiences and refined through years of developing players for the exact opportunities they’re pursuing.
Cam Ellsworth coached Norwich University while establishing himself among Division III hockey’s elite coaches. Over seven seasons, he compiled an exceptional 115-39-19 record (.720 winning percentage), ranking third among all active Division III coaches in winning percentage.
Under Ellsworth’s leadership, Norwich achieved many successes: NCAA Tournament runner-up (2019), national #1 ranking (2020), two NEHC championships, and nine NCAA records including a team goals-against average under 1.00. His mentorship produced a National Player of the Year, five All-Americans, and three Academic All-Americans, demonstrating his commitment to developing complete student-athletes.
Prior to Norwich, Ellsworth spent seven years as associate head coach at Division I UMass Lowell, contributing to three Hockey East Tournament titles and five NCAA Tournament appearances. His playing background includes four years as a goaltender at Michigan Tech, where he still holds program records for games played (117) and saves (3,510), plus three seasons of professional hockey in the ECHL.
Ellsworth’s dual perspective as both a former goaltender and championship coach provides unique insight into game preparation, mental performance, and the systematic approaches that create sustainable success. Named the 2020 NCAA Division III Coach of the Year, he brings proven expertise in building championship culture while maintaining the academic and personal development standards that define elite programs.
